Support Our Vision

We are a welcoming religious community with a warm and generous heart, an open mind and a social conscience.

Support Our Mission

We offer a spiritual home for people of free faith on Nantucket Island, and provide inspiring worship, lifelong religious education, a caring community, and opportunities to put our values into action.

Support Our Dream of Building the "Beloved Community"

Making a contribution to support the work of this congregation is a practical spiritual act. It is the outward expression of inner values; it is the truth of the heart made manifest in the work of the hands. The task of building the "beloved community," where conditions of life support the full development of every human being, requires practical financial support. Please give generously to support this work in 2008.

What goals am I supporting with my gift?

Increased Participation in a Just Community. Take the lead in community social action with community partners, and build a strong social network and vibrant group of volunteers who work for justice locally and globally.

Building Planning and Maintenance. Create a plan to improve and maintain our space in a way that both enhances our programs and preserves our history, with fundraising for this effort.

Strong and Active Lifespan Education Program. Vibrant programs with offerings open to the community for children, youth and adults.

Balanced budget. Balance the operating budget each year and build an additional $2,000,000 endowment.

How much?

In old-time religion, a tithe of 10% of gross income was a requisite. Today, 4% is considered liberal. Of course, each of us must evaluate our own financial situation as we set out on the path of generosity.

Become a steward of this vital and transformative religious community, as together we:

Provide a warm and welcoming place to renew our commitment to a life of meaning; Engage in social issues that affect our community and the larger world; Give our youth a place to grow, be themselves, and learn about their rights and responsibilities; Supportpeople (whether members or nonmembers) through the rites of passage of life and death; Sponsor a music program and concert series that showcases local talent and brings in premier artists to our acoustically beautiful space; Offer unique educational programs for children, youth and adults; and Show the world how a religious community can be strengthened and enriched by diversity.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Yes. The church is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and contributions are tax-deductible. And remember, for those who itemize on their tax returns, it doesn't cost a dollar to give a dollar. For someone in the 30% tax bracket, a $1,000 contribution costs only $700 because the gift reduces tax by $300. We also accept donations of stock and property, which are tax-deductible at their fair market value. Pledges paid directly from an IRA are not treated as a withdrawal subject to tax.

What's a "pledge"?

A pledge is a promise to donate a certain amount of money to the congregation over the course of the coming year. You decide when you pay it (beginning of the year? end of the year? weekly, monthly, or quarterly?). If you request and use pledge envelopes, the office can credit your cash donations to your account.

How can I make a pledge?

Let us know what you promise to contribute during 2008 by filling out the online pledge form or by sending an email or "snail mail" note to the church office.

How can I pay a pledge?

Pay pledges by a recurring credit card charge (on the pledge form tell us that's what you want), pay by check, cash, or via the credit card link on the pledge form.
