Souper Bowl Sunday – February
Members and friends of the Meeting House gather on Souper Bowl Sunday for a potluck dinner at the home of one of the congregants and to enjoy watching the Super Bowl together.
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with traditional Irish fare and fellowship has become a tradition for the Nantucket UU congregation.
Community Seder – April
Families from the Nantucket congregation joins with families of Congregation Shirat Ha Yam in commemorating Passover with a Community Seder held in the Meeting House.
Join us before the start to a busy summer for the potluck BBQ event with summer games and lots of delicious food. Bring the whole family for this not to be missed summer gala!
Meeting House Annual Auction – Summer
This event features both silent and live auctions offering items by both year-round and seasonal Nantucketers affiliated with the UU congregation. All proceeds from the auction will support music, religious education and operational expenses of the congregation.
Standing room only crowds gather at the Meeting House on Independence Day for this annual patriotic happening for the entire family. Included on the program are group singing of patriotic songs and the reading of the Declaration of Independence. At the conclusion of the event, children have the opportunity to sign their names on a mocked-up version of the Declaration.
Music at the Meeting House Series – Summer
The musical series “Thursdays @5″ – Music for a Summer Afternoon” (formerly the noonday concert series) takes place in the summer with a collection of concerts featuring a wide range of music.
Each October the congregation is invited to bring their furry, feathery, fishy and slithery pets to church for the annual Blessing of the Animals service. This event for all ages is held outside the church on the front steps and Orange Street sidewalk.
Community Annual Pipe Organ Crawl – Columbus Day Weekend
For the past 20 years the Unitarian Universalist Church has participated in the Annual Nantucket Pipe Organ Crawl with performances by our organist on our 1831 Goodrich organ and performances on pipe organs at four other different churches in town, all located within walking distance. Each mini-recital lasts about 20 minutes with the performances demonstrating the range of these unique organs. Donations are made at each church, with funds going toward restoration and maintenance of the historic organs.
Our annual craft’s fair is chockablock full of homemade craft items from purses crafted from upholstery fabric to crocheted ponchos; gently used items of many sorts, baskets that contain everything from Tiffany dishes to travel items and everything in between. Come find that item that is just right for a friend, loved one or acquaintance for the holiday season!
Christmas Eve Caroling – December
On Christmas Eve after the Chamber of Commerce Red Ticket Drawing, a group of singers of all ages organized by church members Bob and Diane Lehman visit various sites around Town to sing Christmas carols. Destinations include the Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Our Island Home, the Homestead, the Landmark House and private homes of shut-in members of the congregation.
