Sabbatical Minister Job Ad

Seeking a sabbatical Minister on Nantucket Island, just off the south coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Reverend Linda Simmons will be taking a 2-month sabbatical from February 8th through April 8th, 2018. This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, round trip ferry tickets from Hyannis to Nantucket, and living in our parsonage located at 10 Fair Street behind the church.

Our winter congregation is about 45-60 people who are lively, caring and committed to social justice. Recently we supported the creation of the Nantucket Immigration Community Alliance, established Indivisible Nantucket, initiated a burgeoning Food Rescue program, assisted in Clothing Drives, created a community garden offering plots to immigrants, and are assisting in the development of a community-wide OWL program. We’re good people who deeply care about each other, the island and its eco-systems, and the world. We’re full of humor, artistry, and a love for Unitarian Universalism and our seven principles.

Nantucket Island is about 14 miles long by 3 miles wide with rugged shorelines, enchanting vistas, and diverse flora and fauna. With its proximity to the Gulf Stream, winters overall can be relatively mild compared to the rest of New England. The year-round population is about 15,000. While the winters can be quiet, there are a surprising number of things to do in and around town. There is a wide variety of lectures at the Whaling Museum and at the Atheneum. There are visiting musicians, concerts, four theater venues, an Artists’ Association, the Maria Mitchell Association and Observatory, world-class restaurants, and of course our congregants who know how to potluck and keep each other entertained through the winter.

Full disclosure: we’re pretty typical New England UUs but we’d dearly love to welcome someone from another background, location, or viewpoint!
