COMMITTEES AND TASK FORCE TEAMS

Established by our constitution:

 
Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Church and will have six to    nine elected members, each of whom shall serve a three-year term, excepting the treasurer, who is elected annually and may be re-elected for an indefinite number of consecutive terms.​​​

Our committees are the heartbeat of the work of the congregation in carrying out our mission in our church and in our community. We encourage members to become involved with committees and task forces. You may contact the Minister or any member of the Board of Trustees to assist you in exploring the possibilities.

Nominating Committee presents to the annual meeting a list of nominees for all vacancies on the Board of Trustees, including individuals filling any unexpired term(s) that may exist. The Nominating Committee is elected at the annual meeting in January.​

Committee on Ministry is the liaison between the Minister and the congregation. It’s responsibility is to oversee the quality of the ministry provided by the Minister and the congregation as a whole.

Established by our Board of Trustees:

​

Finance Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Board on all matters relating to church finances. Members of this committee are appointed through the Board of Trustees by recommendations from the chair of FinCom.​​​​​​​​

Building & Grounds Committee has primary responsibility for oversight of the physical condition of the Meeting House, the Parsonage, and the grounds. Members of this committee are recommended by chair or self and approved by the Board of Trustees.

​

Lifespan Religious Exploration Committee sets goals and establishes a philosophy for the lifespan exploration program of the congregation. Members are recommended by chair or self and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Pledge Campaign Committee is responsible for providing members with an opportunity to contribute financially so the goals of the congregation may be realized. Members are recommended by chair or self and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Established in our Handbook Congregational Committees:

​

Social Justice Committee (also known as The 7th Principle Project) is committed to sustainability and environmental justice, partnering with the most vulnerable among us, in response to the challenge that our Earth and its people are facing. Members are recommended by chair or self and approved by the Board of Trustees.

​

The Caring Team augments the pastoral care provided by the Minister and to facilitate a culture of caring within our Meeting House community. Members are recommended by the Minister, chair, or self and approved by the Board of Trustees.​

Membership Committee builds and supports community by planning social activities. Members are recommended by chair or self and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Lay Led Service Committee

The Lay Led Service Committee meets to discern, design, plan and implement one Sunday service a month. Subjects are chosen from a broad field of interests. Congregants and guest speakers share these Sundays that culminate in an experience of congregational and island talent and wisdom.

South Church Preservation Fund (SCPF) Affiliate Organization

The SCPF is a separate 501(c)(3) organization for fundraising to support restoration and preservation of the historic Meeting House building and grounds. The board of SCPF is comprised of several representatives from the Nantucket UU congregation, plus others from the island. Learn more about the SCPF on their website.
